الملاحظ فيما سبق أنه على الأقل لم يكن مستغربًا أو مستنكرًا تواجد واشتراك النساء في مجالات متنوعة من التطبيب وخلال مراحل تطوره بدءًا من التمريض والإسعاف، إلى أمراض العيون، إلى الجراحة والعلاج، إلى القبالة؛ أو أن يكون نشاطهن على أي مستوى عام يتراوح من المعرفة وحضور مجالس الأطباء إلى الممارسة والخبرة إلى الإشراف والاحتراف. وحتى إذا قلنا إن المؤرخين القدامى قد ضنوا بإفراد مساحات أكبر وتراجم شافية منفصلة للنساء المشتغلات في هذا المجال، فعلى الأقل لا يوجد في هذا القليل المدون نبرة استهجان صريحة تسود خطاب التأريخ نفسه، أو لا نلمس في أسلوب الروايات مثلاً أي دهشة مثل التي قد تعترينا في الوقت الراهن أن طبيبة طلبت من مريض أن يضطجع لتداوي عينيه من رمد أصابه (الواقعة المروية عن زينب الأودية). لابد أن الراوي لم يشعر أن الواقعة بحاجة إلى شرح وتبرير في سياقها المهني الطبيعي – وسنعود إلى هذه النقطة بالتحديد عند مقارنة أسلوب القدماء في الرواية بأسلوب بعض الكتاب المحدثين.
