روائي مكسيكي، ولد في بنما 1928 تخرج في كلية الحقوق بالجامعة الوطنية المستقلة في المكسيك وحصل أيضا على شهادة في الاقتصاد من المعهد العالي للدراسات الدولية بجنيف.. ويعد واحدا من أحد أهم كتاب أمريكا اللاتينية. تم ترشيحه لنيل جائزة نوبل في الأدب في عدة مناسبات. من بين العديد من الجوائز حصل على جائزة رومولو جاليجوس, جائزة ميجيل دي سرفانتس 1987 وجائزة أمير أستورياس للأدب 1994, تم تعينه كعضو شرفى لأكاديمية المكسيك للغة في أغسطس 2001.

ولد الروائي المكسيكي كارلوس فوينتس سنة 1928، وفي العام نفسه ولد غارسيا ماركيز، وقضى شطرا من طفولته متنقلا بين عدة بلدان بسبب اشتغال أبيه في السلك الديبلوماسي، مما أكسبه معرفة واسعة باللغات والثقافات المختلفة وانشغالا يقارب الهوس بتاريخ المكسيك والقارة اللاتينية، وكان شديد الولع بالسينما إضافة إلى تأثير كتاب القارة الكبار عليه أمثال بورخيس وأستورياس...يعد فوينتس أحد أقطاب ومحركي تيار السرد اللاتيني في الستينات من القرن العشرينمع ماركيز ويوسا وكورتاثار ودونوسو، وهو أكثر إنتاجا وأقلهم نصيبا في الترجمة إلى العربية. من أهم أعماله الروائية: الإقليم الأشد شفافية - منطقة مقدسة - تغيير الجلد - أرضنا - الجرنجو العجوز - كريستوبال نوناتو - آورا. ومن أعماله القصصية: شجرة البرتقال - الأيام المقنعة - نشيد العميان.
كما كتب في النقد الأدبي والتنظير للكتابة الجديدة، وفي الدراما والسيناريوهات والمقالات الصحفية.هذه الرواية * موت أرتيميو كروث * يصفها كاتبها بأنها حوار مرايا بين جوانب شخصية أرتيميو كروث العجوز المحتضر الذي يحاول من خلال ال1اكرة ترميم ما تبقى من حياته خلال اثني عشر يوما، ويدير فوينتس هذا الحوار بمزيج من الواقع والفانتازيا ومن الذاكرة والاختلاق.
والرواية تتبع بنية سردية غريبة وتظهر كفسيفساء من 38 ذرة متفاوتة الطول.
