القصة الحائزة على جائزة الطيب صالح الاولى، يعبر عن موهبة حقيقية في كتابة القصة، استطاع كاتبه أن يستلهم التاريخ ويستثمر الأسطورة في بناء عالم سردي بديع قائم على فكرة لعنة الفراعنة. تبدو شخصيات هذا العمل محكمة البناء، كما أن الأحداث مترابطة من حيث البنية الأساسية للفعل والصيغة السردية.
برع الكاتب في بناء الفضاء الخارجي للمكان والبيئة التي تتموضع فيها الأشياء والشخصيات بمهارة عالية، واستطاع أيضاً أن يرسم الفضاءات الزمانية بدقة منطلقاً من الماضي إلى الحاضر والعكس. إن الذي أهل هذا النص لنيل المركز الأول لمسابقة الطيب صالخ للشباب في دورتها الخامسة عشرة، هو مستوى التناول السردي الرفيع للتاريخ والأسطورة بلغة سردية متميزة ساهمت في تشكيل الأحداث والشخصيات.
تدور أحداث القصة في بلدة تسمى حسين آرتي في منطقة منحنى النيل. حيث يظَفِر رجل من الرواويس إسمه جُبارة بجثة محنطة تنازل عنها الملك حسين له مقابل طنبورة، يركب جُبارة النهر ويتوَجَّه إلى مُشرع بلدة أمنتقو جنوب دنقلا يبحث عن رجل إنكليزي ليبيعها إِيَّاه، ولاحقًا عندما يجده يرفض الرجل الأبيض شراء الجثة -بعدما قلبها يمنةً ويسرة- بحجة أنها ليست ذات فائدة. وفي اليوم التالي بينما كان يتَرَقَّب رجل انجليزي آخر يتفاجأ جُبارة بالجثة هامدة ومنكوبة فاعة رائحتها. فيروح مهوسًا بالبحث عن سِر الجثة الحية -كما أطلق عليها أهل البلدة- وعن المزيد من الجثث.
•القصة تحاور مفهوم الهوية، وقضية البوصلة الضائعة ونقص الحس التاريخي، ولُصوصيّة الآثار.
