Book Description
تدور أحداث مسرحية «الباتول» حول امرأة مغرورة بجمالها، ترفض نصيحة عجوز حذّرتها من زوال جمالها، ثم تتخلص منها. وبعد مدة، تنجب الباتول طفلًا اسمه صالح، لكنها ترفضه بسبب قبح شكله، فتحبسه في قبو وتحرمـه من حنان الأمومة، وتخترع له شخصية الغولة لتخويفه ومنعه من الخروج.
يكبر صالح وحيدًا، ويجد في الغولة مصدر الحنان والأمان، فيتعلق بها. وفي المقابل، تحاول الباتول طلب المغفرة من جماعة من الرجال المتدينين، فيذكّرونها بمسؤوليتها تجاه ابنها. وفي أحد الأيام، يعثر صالح على مرآة فيكتشف شكله الحقيقي، ثم يعرف أن الغولة مجرد خدعة ابتكرتها أمه لحبسه. فينهار حزنًا بعد اختفائها، ويخرج إلى العالم الخارجي، لكن الناس يخافون منه بسبب مظهره ويطاردونه.
عندها تتدخل الباتول لحمايته، وتعترف بخطئها وندمها على ما فعلته، مؤكدة أن ابنها لا ذنب له في شكله، وأن الله خلقه على تلك الهيئة. وتنتهي المسرحية باعترافها بمسؤوليتها عن معاناته.
