كم هي الصعاب التي يجدها الباحث وهو يدرس العالم الإسلامي في كليات أو في ظواهر متقاربة، وبالتالي وضع القضية في ميزان المستقبل واحتمالاته ومكانته وإمكاناته وغموضه وجهالته، وما يكمن به من توقعات ومفاجآت.
إن ظاهرة التجانس غير متوفرة في العالم الإسلامي، فلا يوجد في العالم الإسلامي إلا بعض الظواهر المروحية المتقاربة والتي تنتمي إلى التاريخ أكثر من انتمائها إلى الحاضر بوثباته السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية. إن دراسة علاقتنا بالعالم الإسلامي تحت عنوان دراسة البيئة الإقليمية، هذه الدراسة الثمينة تحمل كل مقومات الواقع دون الوقوع أمام آمال وأحلام وتطلعات ورنو الاتجاهات الإسلامية والتي اخترنا منها أنموذجاً للدراسة وهي أنموذج العالمية الإسلامية الثابتة.
ولقد وجدنا أنفسنا مضطرين لتقديم نصيب من دراسة علم المستقبل، هذا العلم المبكر الذي أخذ يفرض نفسه على الحياة، ولم ننسى أن نقدم باقة من آراء المفكرين – خاصة الغربيين– حول العالم الإسلامي ويقظته والدور المستقبلي الذي يقدمه ويحمله ويمور به ولقد قدمنا مسحاً جغرافياً وسياسياً عن مجمل العالم الإسلامي كما تقدمنا بدراسة بسيطة عن الدول الإسلامية التي انفصلت عن الاتحاد السوفيتي، ولقد كشفنا عن قوة الانتماء إلى العروبة بالمقارنة والقياس على ضعف رابطة الانتماء إلى العالم الإسلامي، وكأننا في ذلك ترسخ الأمة العربية للدور القيادي لهذه العالمية بسبب هذا الموقع الجغرافي الذي تحتله، مصداقاً لمفهوم الوسطية التي طالعنا بها المفهوم القرآني وكذلك جعلناكم أمة وسطاً لتكونوا شهداء على الناس وليكونوا الرسول عليكم شهيداً.
