يظل الشعر قمة ما يريد إيصاله الشاعر بواسطة بثه الدلالي والإيقاعي لحروفه وكلماته التي هي المكون الأساس للحالة الإنسانية في لحظة من لحظات عشقها وعيشها تلك الحالة. في (مدن مسافرة) تعزف الشاعرة بدرية الشمري بلغتها على الوتر العاطفي بطريقة تتناغم مع إيحاءات النفس تلك التواقة إلى رسم صورة مثالية للمحبوب، وقد ترك في قلبها "صدى لذكرى جميلة / تخرج الكلمات متعسرة من بين أطراف أناملي / لتقع بصمت الحديث على حروف الكيبورد / هنا لحظة العناق المنتظر / فقلبي لا يكف عن التمتمة بكلمات لا أفهمها / إلا عندما أكتب ! ...". هكذا تبني الشاعرة يوتيوبياها الشعرية، فكل شعر كُتب أو يُكتب مرتبط بالمرأة، والمرأة / الكاتبة تجد في الشعر رجلها وبطلها ومحرض أنوثتها؛ وهو يكملها ويجملها ويعطرها ويحميها من الذبول والنسيان "الكتابة كوبُ صحوتي / وكأسُ نشوتي / وحلوى مسائي / وأنت يا أنت / سيلُ الكتابة الذي لا ينتهي". وبهذا المعنى فإن بدرية الشمري تكتب للمرأة والرجل معاً، فالمرأة والرجل والقصيدة يكملان بعضهما البعض ولا تستقيم حياة إلا بهما عند شاعرتنا. ومن هنا جاءت (مدن مسافرة) عن المرأة وعن الرجل معاً، لا تملك إلا أن تصغي له وتقرأه حين يأتيك ...
يضم الكتاب (27) نصاً نثرياً جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "أنا ومحطة" ، "مدن مسافرة" ، "في عتمة لقاء" ، "أنا وهو" ، "سقوط متعثر لشتاء مهاجر؟" ، "عثرات ثابتة" ، "ماذا علمتنا الحياة؟" (...) ونصوص أخرى.
