هذا الكتاب لا يعتبر تذكرة داود لمن يريد أن يتعلم فن كتابة الدراما, ولكنه بمثابة أسهم إرشاد على الطريق, طريق الدراما الوعر والممهد, السهل والشاق فى آن واحد. مدخل مبسط لمعرفة أكبر.
واذا اعتبرنا ان أسس التأليف واحدة, فمن الطبيعى عندما يختلف الوسيط لابد أن يكون هناك أوجه اختلاف بين كل وسيط وآخر, جنباً إلى جنب مع أوجه الاتفاق, بالاضافة إلى ما يجب أن يكون موجوداً أصلا من صفات تميز كل وسيط عن الآخرين.
ولذلك لابد أن نبدأ من البداية, أو من نشأة الدراما منذ العصور البدائية حتى أرسطو, الذى نظر للدراما خير تنظير, وهو ما تعرضت له فى التمهيد للكتاب.
ثم بعد ذلك قسمت الكتاب إلى أبواب اربعة بالأضافة إلى الملاحق: فى الباب الاول "المسرح" تحدثت عن الحوار, الشخصيات, الحبكة, الموسيقى والمؤثرات الصوتية والمناظر, شكل النص المسرحى, المسرحية بين الفصول والمشاهد, ثم المسرحية والوحدات الثلاث. والباب الثانى تحت عنوان "السينما" تكلمت فيه عن بين السيمنا والمسرح, الحوار, الشخصيات, بين الحبكة والسيناريو. الموسيقى والمؤثرات الصوتية والمناظر, الفيلم والمونتاج, وأخيرا الفيلم بين الفصول والمشاهد.
أما الباب الثالث فخصصته للإذاعة, وتعرضت فيه للآتى: الإذاعة كوسيلة أتصال, نشأة الدراما الإذاعية وتطورها, طبيعة مستمع الإذاعة واختلافه عن مشاهد المسرح والسينما والتليفزيون, الحوار, الشخصيات, الحبكة, الموسيقى, والمؤثرات الصوتية, وختاما المسامع فى الدراما الإذاعية.
أما الباب الرابع والأخير فأفردته للتليفزيون, أحدث هذه الوسائل.
