إنَّ مِنْ أعظمِ ما كتب فيه الكاتِبون – سابِقُهم ولاحِقُهم - السيرةَ النبويةَ الشريفةَ لخيرِ خلقِ اللهِ محمدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
وإنَّ خيرَ مَنْ كَتَبَ في السيرةِ ابنَ إسحاق الذي كان إِمَاماً فِي هَذَا الشَّأْنِ غَيْرَ مُدَافَعٍ، كَمَا قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ: مَنْ أَرَادَ الْمَغَازِي فَهُوَ عِيَالٌ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ. وأسلوبُه ولغتُه المميزة وطريقةُ سَرْده للسيرة الشريفة، كلُّها أمور لا تخفى على المهتمِّين بالتاريخ والسِّيَر.
وإنَّ من أفضل الروايات وأتمها لسيرة خير البَشَر روايةَ الحافظ ابن كَثير ؛ وذلك في سِفْره العظيم "البداية والنهاية" الذي استجمع فيه كلَّ ما وقف عليه في السيرة، فنقل فيه عن: ابن إسحاق وابن هشام والزهري والبيهقي والسهيلي والواقدي وغيرهم مِن كتَّاب السيرة النبوية الشريفة، كما نقل عن أصحاب كتب الحديث كالبخاري ومسلم وأحمد وغيرهم.
