يا نفس: هذه الأعوام والشهور والأيام تتفلت من بين يدي سريعاً، ولو تأمِّلتيها بعين النصح واليقين لأصبحتِ غير مصدقة لسرعتها، ولا مستيقنة بمضيها.
ألا تذكرين -يا نفس- بداية هذا العام الذي انصرمت أيامه، وانقضت ساعاته، كيف مرّت سريعاً كأن أول يوم فيها قد ابتدأ للتو، وإذا به عام قد انقضى من عمري كنتِ قد خلفت قبله أعواماً.
يا نفس: لو كنتِ تعقلين، وعلى الواقع تشهدين لعرفتِ حقيقة الدنيا وأنها لحظات، سرعان ما تزول وتتفلت لحظاتها من أيدينا، فهذه السنوات التي من مضت من عمري ذهبت لمح البصر أوهي أسرع،
انقضت من عمري دون أن أشعر.
يا نفس: قد غرتكِ الأماني، وسوّلت لكِ أمَّارتي بالسوء أن مهلة الانتهاء من دنياي بعيدة، وساعة رحيلي منها غير قريبة، فلعلي أحاكمكِ لما لا تستطيعين إنكاره:
ألم تقبرِ -يا نفس- قريب أو صديق كان دونكِ في العمر؟ ألم توارِ جثمان طفل رضيع لم يبلغ الحنث؟
يا نفس: هذه قبورهم شاهدة عليهم، وآثارهم حاكمة بفنائهم،
أُتراكِ بعدهم تُخلّدين؟ أم أنكِ للموت تستبعدين؟
