حدث هذا منذ سنوات. عمرها الآن ثمانية وعشرون عاماً. كانت قد نسيت الموضوع, لكنها تدرك أن الهوة بين أحلامها وبين ما تحياه يولد لديها ذلك النزق الذي اعتاد عليه الناس الذين حولها. تذكرت حينما قالت لها والدتها في يوم من الأيام: (أي بنيتي لا تتركي روحك تذبل. إنك فتاة جميلة). منذ ذلك الحين وجمال الجميلة تفتعل عوالم حقيقية وجميلة. أحياناً كان الخيال لديها يشاطىء الواقع, وفي الأحيان الأخرى كان الواقع هو الذي يسعى الى الخيال. أصبح الخيال لدى جمال حلماً إنسانياً. ومثل جمال هم من يخلون بالتوازن (الواقعي) الذي يعمد إليه سائر الناس ورؤى المجتمع, التي غالباً ما تكون قاصرة وغير عادلة. هؤلاء الحالمون يحملون رؤى الحياة البضة, الحياة العارية, الحياة الحب. هؤلاء من تندفع المسطرة الاجتماعية إثرهم, محاولة حرق أحلامهم أو تحويلها إلى هباء. جمال هي نموذج نادر في المجتمع العربي, لكنه حي يرزق فيه بكل أبعاده العميقة والجوهرية, الشفافة والمشرفة في أحايين كثيرة. وهذه الرواية هي التي ستقص تفاصيل ما حدث لجمال وسواها من شخوص الخيال العربي المعاصر.
