يقول لويس جونسن آل. جي؛ كنتُ ألم الزبائل بشوارع أوستن التي ترعرعت فيها وأعرف دروبها درباً درباً، وكنت أرى الكثير من الملصقات على جدران المحال والأبنية التي تحمل الوجود السياسية التي تدعي بالنضال من أجل نيل حقوقنا نحن الزنوج بهذا الوطن.
لم أكن أؤمن بهذه الوجوه الكاذبة وكنت أرميها بصناديق القمامة الخاصة بالبلدية بدون أسف، أعرف جيداً كيف يكذب الساسة المحليون علينا، لم نكن نصدق بما يقولون ويدعون؛ كان الشعب الأمريكي الأسود يؤمن بقس مهرج غبي أكثر مما يصدق بالساسة المرشحين لأعلى المناصب بالدولة.
ولكن، وعندما عثرت على بعض الصور المتساقطة على الأرصفة وحواف الطرقات المهجورة لمحت صورة تحمل وجه صديق الطفولة مايكل بيكر الإبن، فكنت لا ارميها بالحاويات وجمعتها بنفسي واحتفظت بها بالبيت الصغير عرفاناً للصداقة القديمة بهذا الفتى الذي صار سياسياً يُشار له بالبنان.
كنت على يقين أنه يقول الحق كما كنا نلعب بالحقول الشاسعة من ممتلكات أبيه، على الأقل شعرت أنه لا يتقن الكذب كما يتقنه الساسة المنافقون، ومضيتُ أكنس الشوارع وأجمع صور مايكل بيكر من الحاويات والقمامة.
