لوتنا فرس عربية أصيلة جميلة، يمتلكها نقيب الفرسان، ويتمنّى بقيّة أبطال القصة لو أنهم كانو يملكونها، حتى أنّ بعضهم قد يتمنّى الموت لصاحبها كي يرثها من بعده. وكان النقيب قد أجرى قُرعةً ليحدّد من سيرثها في حالة وفاته. غير أنّ لوتنا لا تجلب لهم سوى خيبة الفأل، بل إن مصير لوتنا نفسه مان مأساوياً. تجري أحداث القصة في بداية الحرب العالمية الثانية 1939، حيث تشارك فرقة من الفرسان في مقاومة الغزو الالماني لبولندا. وتكشف الأحداث عن مقدار المعاناة اليومية التي يعيشها الفرسان شخصيا وعاطفيا، وتلك المتعلقة بالدفاع عن الوطن وويلات الحرب. وقد قام الفنان البولندي الشهير آنجي فايدا بإخراج هذه القصة سينمائياً.
