الأمطارُ تهطُل مصحوبةً بمَسحةٍ من البرودةِ في وابلٍ لا ينقطع، حوّلَ الأرضَ في سبع ساعاتٍ إلى مستنقع لزج، حتّى أن البِغالَ لم تكدْ تقوى على أن تُزحزِحَ العرباتِ من أماكنِها.
وصارَتِ الراياتُ يقطرُ الماء من سواريها، والأطفالُ الصِّغارُ يرتعدونَ في ملابسَ لا تكادُ تسترُ أجسامَهم، كانَ هناكَ قطٌّ كبيرٌ يقبعُ في ناحيةٍ ويَئنُّ ويتحرّكُ في قفصِه متأثّراً بالعاصفةِ المداريّة.
