روبرت بار: أَدِيبٌ وصَحفِيٌّ اسْكُتلندِيٌّ-كَندِيٌّ شَهِير، وُلِدَ في جلاسجو باسكتلندا عامَ ١٨٤٩. كانَ مُعظَمُ إنتاجِهِ الأَدَبيِّ في مَجالِ أَدبِ الجَرِيمة، الَّذِي كانَ رائِجًا في عَصْره. ومَعَ ذُيوعِ شُهْرةِ قِصصِ «شيرلوك هولمز» فِي ذلِكَ الوَقْت، كتَبَ بار «مُغامَرات شيرلو كومبس»، وهِيَ أوَّلُ مُحاكَاةٍ ساخِرةٍ لهولمز. ألَّفَ العَدِيدَ مِنَ المَجْموعاتِ القصَصِيَّةِ المَعْروفة، مِثْل: «انْتِقام!»، و«نَجاحَات يوجين فالمونت»، وغَيْرِهِما. ويُقالُ إنَّ شَخْصيَّةَ المُحقِّقِ الشَّهِيرِ «يوجين فالمونت» الَّتِي ابْتكَرَها بار — والمَنْسُوجةَ عَلى مِنْوالِ شَخْصيَّةِ شيرلوك هولمز — هِيَ الَّتي أَلْهمَتْ أجاثا كريستي شَخْصيَّةَ المُحقِّقِ «هيركيول بوارو» المَعْروفة. تُوفِّيَ بار عامَ ١٩١٢ مُتأثِّرًا بمَرضِ القَلبِ فِي قَرْيةِ ولدنجهام فِي إنجلترا.

استَحوذَتِ الحُكومةُ الفَرَنسِيةُ عَلى عِقدٍ أَثرِيٍّ يَحتوِي عَلى خَمسِمِائةِ مَاسةٍ مِن مُختلِفِ الأَحْجامِ والأَشْكال. وبِسبَبِ السُّمعةِ السَّيِّئةِ لِهذَا العِقدِ واشتِهارِهِ بأنَّهُ شُؤمٌ عَلى حَامِلِه، قرَّرَتِ الحُكومةُ بَيْعَهُ فِي المَزاد. وعَهِدَتِ الحُكومةُ بِحِمايةِ العِقدِ ومُشتَرِيهِ إِلى المُحقِّقِ فالمونت، كَبيرِ المُحقِّقِينَ لدَيْها. ولَم تَكُنْ مَهمَّةُ المُحقِّقِ فالمونت بِالمَهمَّةِ السَّهلَة؛ بِسبَبِ تَجمُّعِ أَمهَرِ اللُّصوصِ فِي العَالَمِ فِي ذلِكَ اليَوْم، عَلى أَملِ أَنْ يَتمكَّنوا مِنَ الظَّفَرِ بتِلكَ الغَنِيمةِ الثَّمِينة. فهَلْ سيَتمكَّنُ كَبيرُ المُحقِّقِينَ مِن حِمايةِ العِقدِ وصاحِبِه، أَمْ سيَفوزُ بِهِ أَحدُ عُتاةِ عَالَمِ الجَرِيمةِ؟ اقْرَأ التَّفاصِيلَ المُثِيرةَ لتَتعرَّفَ عَلى مَصيرِ العِقدِ وأَينَ سيَكونُ مُستقَرُّه فِي نِهايةِ الأَمْر.
