لعل خير مدخل يمكن الولوج منه إلى قراءة "كوكب الجرذان" للكاتب والروائي اللبناني "غسان شبارو" هو القول المنسوب إلى ابن عربي، الذي يشكل لنا فاتحة الكلام، وهو: "إذا كان مطلوبك في المرآة أن ترى فيها وجهك، فلم تأتها على التقابل، بل جئتها على جانب، فرأيت صورة غيرك فيها فلم تعرفها، وقلت: ما هذا أردت، فقابلتك المرآة، فرأيت صورتك، فقلت: هذا صحيح، فالعيب منك لا من المرآة". فهذا القول الذي يؤكد مسؤولية الإنسان عن أفعاله واتخاذ القرارات المناسبة التي تقوده إلى صورته وذاته، وتضعه وجهاً لوجه أمام نفسه، يشكل مدخلاً مناسباً إلى رواية تتناول حكايات أناس أصابتهم لعنة الحياة أو لعنة الجشع أو اللعنتان معاً، ورسمت لكل منهم مساراً متعثراً ومصيراً فاجعاً في كوكب الجرذان هذا الذي يعرف بكوكب الأرض. يقول الكاتب ".. تعيث الجرذان خراباً في البنية التحتية المدنية والاقتصادية، ولكن حجم هذا الأذى لا يقارن بما يسببه بعض الجرذان البشريين الفاسدين، الذين يعمل بعضهم في الإدارات العامة، مستغلّين مراكزهم الرسمية لإرضاء نزوات أمثالهم الجشعين، وذلك على حساب صحة ورخاء وطمأنينة المجتمع. على خلفية صناعة وتجارة ما يسمى "العلاجات العشبية" يدور صراع مرير في "كوكب الجرذان" بين أفراد المجتمع وهؤلاء الجرذان البشريين، تتكشف عنه الممارسات القاتلة التي يلجأون إليها لمراكمة ثرواتهم، مطيحين بجميع مبادئ الأخلاق والقوانين".
