تدور أحداث هذه الرواية في أوائل التسعينيات ، لترصد العلاقات والتغيرات المجتمعية خلال فترة من أحلك فترات التاريخ المصري المعاصر وانعكاساتها على النفس البشرية، لتسبر أغوارها وتكشف أشد جوانبها قتامة، عبر الانتقال بأحداثها بين شوارع مدينة الإسكندرية العريقة وأزقة كلاحين الجبل الخانقة، تلك القرية المنسية بأقاصي الصعيد، عبر الصراع الأزلي لتشابك الأهواء والشهوات بين شخوص أبطالها الذين يصادفهم القارئ في حياته اليومية المعتادة، في تداخل يمتزج بالعديد من الأحداث الحقيقية.
