مثل كل الغرباء واللاَّمنتمين، كان يمشي وحده في الشارع حافيَ القدمين، متأبّطاً خفَّه النسويّ..
- لماذا؟..
- هكذ، ألديك اعتراض أنت كذلك؟..
شعره منفوش، شعر ذقنه الأشقر صار يبدو وكأنه لحية، أمَّا فحْصتُه فقد مال شعرها إلى السواد.. فبدت كأنَّها خال كبير، عشرات العيون تكاد تزلقه، وعشرات الألسنة تسلقه كالمبارد النَّهمة.. فكَّر أكثر من مرة أن يعود إلى سابق عهده وعقله، فمن الصعب أن يسبح الأعزل عكس التيار، ومن الصعب كذلك أن تعيش متأبطا الحرية بين قطعان العبيد، ومن العسير أن تنظر بعيون القلب، وأن تضع عمرك تحت تصرف الضمير، عندها سوف تمضي على حوافي الجمر، في ظل المشانق، بين سعار الخناجر الصدئة.. أن تكون حُرًّا معناه أن تكون قريبا من التهمة.. قريبا من الإدانة.. قريبا من الموت بمنظور العبيد..
ورغم هذا فقد حقق مكسبا عظيما، إذ صار الجميع يكرهونه، أو قل: لايحترمونه، إلا قلة قليلة لا يهمها م راح وجاء، .. والأهم من هذا، أنهم صاروا لا يلجأون في حضرته إلى السّر والكتمان.. ولماذا يسرّون ويكتمون في حضرته، وقد صار عقله لا يمسك ما تسمعه أذنه وتراه عينه ويعيه فؤاده " إلاَّ كما تمسكُ الماءَ الغرابيلُ"..
