تحكي رواية "قلبي كان أسود" قصة شابٍ اسمه ناصر نشأ في حيٍ فقير، حيث كانت القسوة والجوع جزءاً من حياته منذ الطفولة. ومع مرور السنوات، دفعه الفقر والمعاناة إلى دخول عالم الجريمة والعمل مع زعيم عصابة خطير يُعرف باسم ديابلو. في ذلك العالم المظلم تعلّم ناصر أن القوة أهم من الرحمة، وأن القلب القاسي هو السبيل الوحيد للبقاء.
لكن حياة ناصر تبدأ في التغير عندما يلتقي صدفةً بفتاة طيبة تُدعى ليلى، تعمل في مكتبة صغيرة وتعيش حياة بسيطة مليئة بالسلام والإنسانية. بفضل لطفها ونقائها، يبدأ ناصر في رؤية الحياة من زاوية مختلفة، ويكتشف أن قلبه الذي اعتقد أنه أصبح أسود قد لا يزال قادراً على الشعور.
ومع تصاعد الأحداث، يجد ناصر نفسه ممزقاً بين عالمه القديم المليء بالخطر والولاء للعصابة، وبين رغبته في التغيير والبدء بحياة جديدة. لكن زعيم العصابة ديابلو لا يسمح لأحد بالهروب من عالمه بسهولة، فتتحول حياة ناصر إلى مطاردة خطيرة تقوده إلى مواجهة حاسمة قد تغيّر مصير الجميع.
الرواية تجمع بين التشويق، والصراع النفسي، والحب، والخيانة، وتطرح سؤالاً عميقاً:
هل يمكن لقلبٍ عاش طويلاً في الظلام أن يجد طريقه إلى النور؟
وتنتهي القصة بنهاية مؤثرة تترك أثراً عاطفياً عميقاً في نفس القارئ.
