إن الضعف موجود في نفوس الجميع، كما أن القوة موجودة لديهم. ولكن كيف يحدث أن تكون النفس البشرية في صراعين؟
إن الأمر بكل بساطة هو أن تركيزنا ونتاجنا يقعان دائما على ظاهرنا دون أن نلقي بالا لما يحدث في أعماقنا. إن القوة التي تراها في الآخرين تستوطن أعماقك، ولكنها تنتظر من أحد أن يوقظها ويستشعر قيمتها. فمثلا ماذا لو أنك وقعت في منتصف الطريق ولم تجد أحدا حولك يساعدك على النهوض، هل ستبقى كما سقطت؟ أم أنك سترغم نفسك على النهوض بالرغم من الألم؟
هذه هي طبيعة النفس البشرية، تشعر دائما بأنك بحاجه لمن يساعدك على النهوض ويمسك بيدك حتى تتجاوز هذه العثرة. لكن لن يحدث ذلك بشكل دائم، لا بد من أنك تدع الاتكالية على الغير وتنهض بنفسك دون أن تتكئ أو تستند على أحد. في بحث أجرته جامعة أوميا الطبية للقوة الداخلية ووفقا للإطار النظري للدراسة فإن القوة الداخلية تتكون من أربعة أجزاء بدرجات متفاوتة من التفاعل وهي: الترابط، الإبداع، المرونة، الحزم.
القوة الداخلية تعني «الوقوف ليس فقط على القدمين بحزم على الأرض، وإنما القدرة على التواصل مع الآخرين: العائلة والأصدقاء والمجتمع والطبيعة والأبعاد الروحية، وأيضا القدرة على التجاوز». إن وجود القوة الداخلية هو أن تكون مبدعا ومرنا، وأن تؤمن بقدرتك على التصرف، واتخاذك للقرارات، والتأثير على مسار الحياة في اتجاه يحمل معنى. القوة الداخلية هي الاستعداد التام لدى الفرد لتحمل المسؤوليات عن نفسه وعن الآخرين، للسيطرة ومعالجة الصعوبات والشدائد عند نشوئها.
