أقوم في هذا القاموس بتعريف وشرح وتوضيح المصطلحات الخاصة بالسرديات، وهي المصطلحات التي يختلف معناها في هذا المجال، عن المعنى المتداول في غيره من المجالات، وكذا المصطلحات التي ينتمي معناها العادي أو التقني لأحد المجالات الدلالية البارزة واللازمة أو الضرورية لوصف ومناقشة السرديات. إن القائمة التي يضمها القاموس لاتشمل كل المصطلحات المتداولة على نطاق واسع، والمصطلحات التي يستخدمها أو يمكن أن يستخدمها المشتغلون بالسرديات بمختلف اتجاهاتهم النظرية والمنهجية، ومع ذلك، فقد احتفظت أيضاً ببعض المصطلحات التي أراها نافعة أو يمكن أن تحقق تداولاً وبعض المصطلحات التي لم تعد تستخدم الآن ولكنها كانت مستخدمة في وقت من الأوقات. وفضلاً عن ذلك ركزت على مصطلحات تستخدم بمجال السرد اللفظي وحده، وأعتقد أن هذا الانحياز يعكس انحيازاً في السرديات ذاتها.
