خصص المؤلف هذا الكتاب لتفسير قوله تعالى: ?ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى إِلَى السَّماءِ وَهِيَ دُخانٌ فَقالَ لَها وَلِلأَرْضِ ائْتِيا طَوْعاً أَوْ كَرْهاً قالَتا أَتَيْنا طائِعِينَ? [فصلت: 41/11] متسائلاً هل القول في الآية على سبيل الحقيقة أو المجاز؟ ومن أجل تقديم تفسير مختار من بين التفاسير، رجع إلى مجموعة منها ليخلص بعدها إلى ما اطمأن إليه.. وفي بداية البحث ساق مجموعة من أمور رآها ضرورية لتجلية المعنى، على قواعد اتُّفق عليها، أو نصبت ليقام عليها صرح التفسير. ثم طاف المؤلف بين التفاسير المعتمدة، وساق ما جاء فيها، وناقشها من خلال المبدأ الذي طرحه في البداية حول المجاز والحقيقة.. حتى قدَّم رأيه بأدلة ونقاش علمي.
