يُقَدِّم كازو إيشيجورو فى روايته "فنان من العالم الطليق" الصادرة حديثًا عن المركز القومى للترجمة من ترجمة هالة صلاح الدين، نظرة أصيلة إلى اليابان فى أعقاب الحرب العالمية الثانية فى عالم طليق من السلوكيات الثقافية المتغيرة ونماذج اجتماعية طالها التبدل ويطرح أسئلة: ما الذى انتاب اليابانيين من مشاعر حين شنوا حرباً ثم خسروها؟ محاولا إعادة تقييم مبادئ الحرب والسلام.
تغلب الرمزية على الرواية فلا يقال أى شىء بصورة مباشرة على لسان الراوى، حتى يُخيل للقارئ أن الرواية لا تطرح أى شىء على الإطلاق! فالمعنى الحقيقى يطفو فوق الأحداث ولا يتضح سوى لقارئ بمقدوره أن يستشف ما بين السطور، لذا يصعب وضع تصور واحد للكتاب، هل هو هجوم على الرضا الزائف عن الذات، وعلى مَن تكاتفوا لهلاك أمة ليخرجوا فى النهاية سالمين بلا عقاب أم مناشدة لطلب الغفران؟ هل "فنان العالم الطليق" عجوز أحمق مغرور، ساذج بدرجة لا يتصورها عقل، أم مفكر أساءت اليابان معاملته وشوهت صورته بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية؟ وهل كان فنه ذا أهمية قصوى لنظام الحكم أم تراه يعيش خدعة كبرى؟ هل كان وطنياً ضحى بكل غالٍ من أجل شعبه أم نفعياً سعى وراء الشهرة مقابل دعاية سياسية رخيصة؟
