معجمُ "الفَصيح" لثَعْلَب واحدٌ مِن أقدم المعاجم التي تضبط اللغةَ بالصِّيغ والأوزان، وهو أحدُ مصادر التراث اللغوي الذي يعالج ما طرأ على اللُّغة العربية مِن اللَّحن والخَطأ، فيما يُعرف حديثاً بكتب (قل ولا تقل). وقال عنه: هذا كتابٌ اختصرناه وأقللناه لتخفَّ المئونةُ فيه على متعلِّمه الصغير والكبير، وليعرفَ به فصيحَ الكلام، ولكن ألَّفناه على نحو ما ألَّف الناسُ ونسبوه إلى ما تلحن فيه العامة، ولم نكبِّره بالتوسعة في اللغات وغريب الكلام.
