عندما تقرأ "قماشة العليان" نعرف أنها تنوي أخذنا إلى عالم ذكوري أو بالأحرى مجتمع ذكوري، الرجل سيده والمرأة خلقت من ضلعه، كما يقولون.
وكعادتها في كل ما تكتب تضع "العليان" يدها على الجرح، جرح المرأة العربية في المجتمعات التقليدية، تلك المحكومة بالإنتقال من إحباط إلى آخر والمتوقفة طموحاتها عند عتبة تاء التأنيث، يرسم الرجل مصيرها، وتتحكم البنى المغلقة بمستقبلها. فبطلة الرواية تعيش حالاً من الفقدان، فقدان ذاتها كأنثى، تبدأ مأساتها عندما يقرر أباها تزويجها من شخص يكبرها سناً، فقط لإنه مدين لهذا الشخص بمبلغ كبير من المال ولا يستطيع سداده، فتزوجته، وتفاجأت في ليلة زفافها بإمرأة جميلة اعتلت المنصة وقامت ترقص، وعرفت لاحقاً في إحدى الحاضرات بأن هذه المرأة جميلة اعتلت المنصة وقامت ترقص، وعرفت لاحقاً من إحدى الحاضرات بأن هذه المرأة زوجته وأم أولاده.. فكان ثمرة زواجها ولد معاق –وفي هذه الأثناء شنت القوات العراقية هجومها على الكويت فغادرت هدى مع أسرتها إلى الرياض حيث منزل عمها، وهناك أعجبت بابنة سالم، وعندما عادت إلى الكويت عرفت أن زوجها طلقها وعادت إلى أهلها بطفل معاق ولقب مطلقة. تتوالى الأحداث في الرواية لتتزوج هدى أكثر من مرة وفي كل مرة تطلق وكان آخرها من حبيبها الأول عماد، حيث توفي ابنها المعاق ليلة زواجها، وتحول الزواج إلى مأتم، وباتت هدى ليلتها في المستشفى لتنتهي الرواية بطلاقها وانتهاء حبها الذي عاشت سنين طويلة تحلم به وتتمناه.
الجدير بالذكر أن الرواية حائزة على المركز الأول عن جائزة أبها الثقافية لعام 1418هـ.
