إروين ألن غينسبرغ (3 يونيو 1926 - 5 إبريل 1997) شاعر أمريكي عرف عنه معارضته الشديدة للنزعة العسكرية والمادية والقمع الجنسي، كان قيادي بارز في Beat Generation وهم مجموعة من الكتاب والمثقفين الأمريكين الشباب الذين إشتهروا بالدفاع عن الحريات الشخصية في فترة الخمسينات من خلال أعمالهم الأدبية، من أشهر قصائده قصيدة "عواء".

"عواء" أولى قصائد آلن غينسبرغ الملحميّة الطويلة، بوّأته رائداً للشعر الأميركي في أواخر الخمسينات فالستينات بعد قراءته لها في أحد مقاهي سان فرانسيسكو.
صدرت في أكثر من ستّين طبعة وبيع منها أكثر من مليوني نسخة، ولا تكاد تخلو مجموعة من مجاميع الشعر الأميركي من "عواء" التي تعتبر فتحاً، من حيث التقنية الصوتيّة، في إعادة صوت وتمان المنسرح الشاسع الأبعاد وبيته الشعري الطويل، إلى شعر الخمسينات الأميركي، المثقل بآليّة النفس الأكاديمي الذي كان يلفظ أنفاسه الأخيرة.
