وجد نفسه إمام جامع يعتلي منبرًا في مسجد كبير، مسجد لا سقف له، وفي السَّماء غربان تنعقُ وتطير بنغم دائري، وأمامه بشر لا وجوه لهم، يجلسون على سجاجيد صلاة قذرةٍ موبوءة بالخطيئة، ونساء كاسياتٌ وأُخَرُ عاريات، وقوارير نبيذ مُكدّسة ومُلقية هنا وخارج هنا. . وضحكات زانية وصخب عاهر. أمسك ورقة الخطبة التي يتراءى له أنه أعدّها مُنْذُ أيام الثانوية فوجد الورقة تتراقص فيها الحروف إلى أن تلاشت تمامًا منها. فألقاها جانبًا وراح جبينه يتصبّب عرقًا، لم يكن يرتدي ما يوحي بأنه إمام لجامع، بل كان يرتدي بِنطال جينز هابط الخصر يظهر ملابسه الداخلية وأوائل مؤخرته و "تي شيرت" صاخب مكتوبٌ عليه:
