منذ الوهلة الأولى يدرك القارىء أن محمد ربيع يبحث و ينقب في فترات تاريخية مختلفة كي يصل إلى حدث تاريخي أو معلومة قد تكون بسيطة، و ربما يسهب أحيانا في طرح تلك المعلومة البسيطة أو ذلك الحدث. و لكنك لن تشعر بملل و لن تجد نفسك تتسائل: "أيوة أنا مالي يعني"! طريقة طرح الحدث ذاتها جعلتني أحيانا أتسائل إن كان الكاتب جادا فيما يقول، أو إن كان يقصد السخرية. لم أجد دائما إجابة و لم أهتمّ. رواية عام التنين رواية متعددة الجوانب ، سواء فى الشكل أو المضمون . فهى قد أخذت "العجائبية" والفانتازيا الى أبعاد جديدة . غير أنها لم تفعل ذلك بمنأى عن الواقع ، الذى تبدى فى ذكر الكثير من الشخصيات والأسماء المعروفة .منذ البدء فى قراءة الرواية الجديدة لمحمد ربيع ، يدخل القارئ الى ذلك العالم الخارق للطبيعة ، على نحو يُمسك بالقارئ يجذبه الى مطالعة الرواية بعنصر مهم هو التشويق .وقد ذكّرتنى هذه الفاتحة بفاتحة كافكا فى روايته " المسخ "وتأخذنا الأحداث ما بين وقائع شخصية نعيم الذى ينتقل فى أحوال متعددة ، الى الشخصية المجهولة التى تكتب النصائح الى "صلاح " الذى نعرف أنه من أعمدة النظام السابق ، يقدم له النصائح الكفيلة بإخضاع الشعب لكل ما يريده الحاكم .ونهاية القصة تصوير سردى رائع لمهرجان فرعونى حديث لتتويج الملك على عرش مصر . الرواية متقنة الصنع ، ولذلك فهى تحتاج الى القراءة العميقة ، والتفهم لصلة الأحداث بعضها ببعض ، وهى تستحق الدراسة والتعليق من جانب النقاد ، وهو ما أرجو أن يحدث فى المستقبل القريب . أعجبني جدا الاجتراء في استخدام بعض الألفاظ العامية الدارجة و النابية أحيانا. فتلك هي لغة حياتنا اليومية .. و استخدامها قد خدم النص في رأيي و جعلني كقارىء أقرب إلى ما يحدث.
