تخبرنا هذه الرّواية بقصّة أحداثُها حقيقيّة، يروي فيها الكاتبُ حكاية طفلٍ صغير عاش الوَيلات رفقة قريبة زوجة والده، والتي مارست عليه ألوان العذاب، والتّنكيل الجسديّ، والنّفسيّ المنقطع النّظير، إذ تتسلسل أحداثها كرونولوجيّا حسب مراحل طفولة "عبد الله" بطل الرّواية، ويعرض فيها المؤلّف الأحداث بصيغة مشوّقة وَفْقَ قالب أدبيّ فريد، مع براعة في اللفظ، ورشاقة في المعنى رغم ما فيها من مواقف حزينة، ووقائع مؤلمة، لكنّه استطاع حَبْكَ ذلك، وسَبْكَهُ بما يُمتع نظر القارئ، ويُطرب مسامعه، ويؤنسه خلال هذه الرّحلة الأدبيّة الشّجيّة.
