لجأ الكاتب "جونتكين" إلي طرح أفكاره حول الصراعات الناشئة من تدهور البنية الإجتماعية للأفراد، وكشف النقاب عن المشاكل والتناقضات الإجتماعية بشكل غير مباشر، من خلال سرده لمغامرات مثيرة وعاطفية بريئة وإجتماعية لفتاة متعلمة تحمل فكرا سويا عصريا يتناقض مع سلوكيات مجتمع متخلف وما تواجهه من إحباطات ومعاناة مادية ونفسية في ظل هذا المجتمع.
تدور أحداث الرواية بين ديار بكر وبغداد والموصل وكربلاء وبيروت وإسطنبول وتكير داغ وإزمير، وعدد من القرى والبلدات الأناضولية النائية، ونجد أن التخلف والأمية وتعرية التشوهات المتعلقة بالبيروقراطية من أهم المواضيع الإجتماعية للعمل.
