رواية تحكي عن طفل ولد في أسرة فقيرة، وقد قابلته ظروف صعبة حيث مات والده وهو في سن الحادية عشر، وتولي مسؤولية أخويه اللذين كانا في أول شهور لهم في هذه الدنيا، عمل مكان والده الصياد الذى كان يتمنى أن يري ابنه طبيباً في يوم من الأيام، ولكنه ضحي بمستقبله لأجل تربية أخويه وجعلهم في المكان الذى حلم به والدهم. تدور أحداث هذه الرواية فى إحدي القري المطلة علي وادى النيل بمصر ويرجع التقويم الزمنى لها إلى خمسينات القرن الماضي، مشتملة على وصف الريف المصري القديم، ويتضمن هذا الجزء من الرواية قصة الكفاح والصبر والتضحية.
