يعرض الكتاب للسؤال التقليدي حول مدى صحة الصورة التي رسمها أفلاطون ويقدم حلا لإشكالية الصراع بين العلمانية والدين. يشابه بين آراء سقراط الأخلاقية والدينية عن علاقة الإنسان بالله وبالآخرين وتلك الأفكار التي وردت في الكتابات البوذية والكونفوشيوسية والكتاب المقدس والقرآن الكريم. فكان سقراط نبيا وفيلسوفا. يرى أن سعادة الإنسان في إيمانه أولا وإتخاذ التفلسف منهجا لحياته. ويشكل إدراك الإنسان لنقصه المعرفي وجهله بداية طريق التفلسف الحياة السعيدة. ليس نقص اليقين مرضا وإنما النفور من التفكير وكراهيته والقفز إلى النتائج يعد من أخطر الأمراض التي تواجه البشرية، ولا يمكن أن نشفى في هذه الأمراض إلا بالتفلسف والإيمان، ويقترح الحوار الفلسفي دينا عالميا.
