تبدأ أحداث هذه الرّواية في صحراء الغرب الأمريكيّة حيث يسافر بطلها إلى المدينة المجاورة ليؤنس وحدة عمّته العجوز ولكن في الطّريق تنقلب العربة وتنقلب معها حياته إذ يختطفه قاطع طريقٍ أحمر ويجبره على خدمته هو وعصابته..
ولكن يلوح للأحمر سرّ.. سرٌّ يقلب الموازين رأساً على عقب.. ما هو السّر؟.. وهل يؤثّر على حياة البطل؟
