تحظى الأحداث الرياضية الكبرى، كدورة سويسرا على الدراجات ومباريات سباق الخيل، والألعاب الترفيهية الرياضية كالصفعة. والأرنب والكلبان،... باهتمام الفتيان وحماسهم البالغين، وهو، بلا شك، أمر طبيعي. ومع ذلك فثمة مسؤولون عن حركات الفتيان يتبرمون بهذه الظاهرة الطبيعية مدّعين أنها تعرقل أحياناً أعمالهم ومناهجهم الدراسية لما تسببه من لهو وانصراف عند الفتيان. وكان الأجدر بهم، بدلاً من أن يتبرموا بهذا الحماس الذي يشكل جزءاً صميمياً في حياة الفتيان، أن يفيدوا منه لما فيه خير الفتيان أنفسهم. والواقع أنه ليس أسهل من تنظيم الألعاب التي يمكن أن يقبل الفتيان عليها بحماس بالغ لمجرد اعتقادهم بأنهم سيصبحون لوقت قصير، رياضيون كباراً مشهورين.
وفي هذه الصفحات يجمع "أ.ديمول" بعض الألعاب الحديثة التي تخلف في نفوس رياضيينا الفتيان روح التنافس والأقدام. كما ويجمع فيه مجموعة من الألعاب القديمة التي لا تخلوا من الاجتذاب والتي كاد يضع لها كل أثر، في حقول الألعاب الحديثة، كل ذلك تم شرحه بأسلوب بسيط وسهل مرفق بالرسومات التوضيحية الهامة التي بيّن للقارئ أو لمنفذ اللعبة كيفية تطبيق مراحل اللعبة. وهو يشكل عام موجه للقادة الكشفيين وللمربين الرياضيين الذين يقع على عاتقهم إجراء مسابقات رياضية بين التلامذة في المدارس.
أود أن ابدأ هذا التمهيد بكلمة عرفان. ففي هذا العام يكون قد مضى على انتمائي للحركة الكشفية خمسة وعشرون عاماً وأرى لزاماً عليّ بهذه المناسبة أن أعترف بكل ما كان للحركة من جميل عليّ. والواقع أن الفضل في قدرتي على وضع الألعاب المنشورة في هذا الكتاب وجمعها يعود إلى أنني قائد كشاف.
