«ولأنَّ موضوعَ النقاشِ بيني وبينَ ابني يدورُ حولَ القرآنِ واللُّغة؛ لهذا السببِ فقطْ تدخَّلَ الأب، وهالَهُ استهانةُ ابنِهِ بحفظِه، وعدمُ اهتمامِهِ بالنطقِ والشكل؛ فعَنَّفَهُ بشدَّةٍ وبقِيَ معَهُ إلى أنْ قرأَ القُرآنَ كما يَجبُ أنْ يُقرَأ.»
بينَ صُحبةِ أهلِ السياسةِ والفنِّ والأدب، وبينَ الحياةِ الشخصيةِ والعائلية؛ تصِفُ لنا الكاتِبةُ «عفاف أباظة» حياةَ زوجِها الأديبِ «ثروت أباظة» في هذا الكتابِ الذي يُعَدُّ مَزيجًا بينَ كِتابتَيْن، كانتْ أُولاهُما في فترةِ شبابِها، ثم أصبحَ استئنافُ الكتابةِ ضرورةً واجبةً لاستكمالِ الصورةِ عنْ حياةٍ غنيةٍ بالتفاصيلِ والأحداث، تبدأُ بذِكْرِ الأصلِ والمنشأ، مرورًا بمُشاكساتِ الطفولة، وطَوْرِ الشباب، وذكرياتِ اللقاءِ وتكوينِ الأُسرة، واستمرارِ الكفاحِ المشتركِ في مواجَهةِ تقلُّباتِ الحياة. سيرةٌ يَمْلؤُها الحُب، والحُبُّ وحدَهُ هو ما جمَعَ بينَ بطلِها وكلِّ مَن شاركُوهُ حياتَهُ بكلِّ ما فيها، وهو أيضًا ما جعَلَ سِيرتَه تستمرُّ في قلوبِ قُرَّائِه؛ فالغَرسُ الطَّيبُ لا يُنبِتُ إلا طيِّبًا.
