تتناول الرواية قصة عاشور شاب يسكن في محلة الصدرية ببغداد عام 2006، يكره اسمه الذي ورثه من عمه المفقود في الحرب العراقية الايرانية، لذلك يناديه أهل الحي ب ( شوبان الصدرية). عاشور يشتري بيانو ويخيب أمله عندما يعرف ان البيانو لا يمكن ادخاله للمنزل بسبب ضيق البوابة. لذا؛ يقوم بنقله الى كراج للسيارات يحرسه شخص ضخم يلقبه هو بالحالم. يكتشف ان البيانو الذي اشتراه كان في السابق ملكاً للسيدة بياتريس اوهانسيان أول عازفة بيانو في العراق، فيحاول الحفاظ عليه من المليشيات الذين يلاحقونه في محاولة احراق البيانو.
