هذا الكتاب بوساطة مجلة "المقتطف" عام 1928 وظهر في صورة مقالات هذه المجلة التي كان لها أكبر الفضل في تثقيف القارئ العربي وغير العربي من مشارق الأرض إلى مغاربها ومع بزوغ فجر 1952 بدأ انحسار المجلات الثقافية الرفيعة قسقطت "الرسالة" واختنقت "الثقافة" ومات "المقتطف".
ومعروف أن سلطات الاحتلال الإنجليزي لمصر كانت مع "المقتطف" و "المقطم" في مساندة الوجود البريطاني. ومعروف أيضاً أن "الأهرام" ساند الوجود الفرنسي في مصر من جوانب شتى وفي زحمة السياسة وألاعيبها كان الجانب الثقافي للمقتطف عياره النادر. ومن بين هذه النوادر هذه الرسالة الشيقة في مناجاة الأرواح وانتقالها وقراءتها وتحليل الأحلام ورؤية المستقبل وآراء العلماء في الحياة بعد الموت، لقد أشرف على جمع وتحقيق هذا البحث العلامة الكبير الأستاذ الدكتور فؤاد صروف.
سوف يعجب القارئ بهذا البحث الذي جمع بين التأييد والمعارضة ولا يحق للعالم أن يجزم بمصداقية البحث وإلا سقط العلم في لجة التعصب والجهل.
