يروي هذا الكتاب سيرة الشهيد هاشم مشحوف الأسدي، ابن الأهوار الذي نشأ يتيمًا وتربّى على الصبر والفالة والعمل الشاق. ينتقل الكتاب من طفولته القاسية في قرية الرتبة، إلى سنوات الحرب والاعتقال والمطاردة، ثم إلى دوره البارز في الإصلاح العشائري. وفي ذروة الأحداث يلبّي نداء الجهاد، ليختم حياته بالشهادة في ناحية العلم.
إنها حكاية رجلٍ تحوّل من صيّاد بسيط إلى شخصية مؤثرة، ومن ابن بيئة متعبة إلى رمزٍ للصدق والرجولة والوفاء. سيرة تُقرأ لتُلهم، ولتذكّر بأن البطولة تبدأ من الإنسان ومن المبدأ قبل السلاح.
