ولقد قدر ديدرو بأنه يعمل لمجد لن يتأتى له ألا بعد موته وكان مؤمناً بعبقريته ولقد اعترفت الأجيال اللاحقة بذلك بعد قرنين من الغفلة والافتراء فقدرت فيه الرجل والكاتب فلقد أجبر اكتشاف "المراسلات" -هذه الرائعة الأدبية- كافة النقاد كي يعودوا إلى المستندات حتى يقيموا حياة حافلة بالإنتاج وإن بدت رتيبة في بعض الأحيان.
لقد كان ديدرو مخلصاً لأفكاره فسبب ذلك ضيقاً للنفوس الرافضة للعصرنة ولقد حث الإنسانية بقديمها وحديثها أن تكون شريفة ومقدامة. وذلك ما يجب تقديره فيه كروح كانت تحب اللعب بالأفكار وتصقل الفرضيات وتتذوق مفاجآت المماثلة. عن هذا الكاتب تتحدث صفحات هذا الكتاب مثقفة عند سيرته الذاتية وأهم إبداعاته في عالم الكتابة.
