يضم هذا الكتاب الأدوات المؤثرة في أواخر الكلمات، مما ييسر للقارئ مراجعتها وصحة استعمالها. ثم ألحق بالأدوات متفرقات من الجمل والكلمات التي تحسن طرق الإنشاء، وليس كمثل قراءة أفصح الكلام سبيل إلى التعبير البليغ.
تعتمد الكتابة الصحيحة على معرفة معنى الكلمة وأصولها النحوية. لذلك بينت هذين الأساسين في غير إسراف في التعمق أو التعليل. وتجاوزت عن الاستعمالات النادرة والتأويلات الشاذة على القاعدة الأعم والتركيب الأفصح لئر يطغى النحو على المعنى. فإذا أجاز النحاة غير حال من الإعراب اخترت ما هو أقرب إلى المعقول وأسهل حفظاً، غير مفرط في الأصول. وبينت ذلك بكلمة "يستحسن"...
لربما نبخس الكلمة حقها، فلا نهتم بها، بالرغم من كون الكلمة قوة محركة، فالتهليلة تنوم الصغير، والكلمة المثيرة تهيج الجماهير. الكلمة المشجعة تشعل الهمم، وتشحذ العبقرية. الكلمة القوية تقولب العقل، فكأن قائلها نحات يخلق من الصخر تمثالاً يكاد ينطق.
سلامة اللغة من سلامة التفكير ومراعاة القواعد والأصول التي أورثنا إياها السلف الصالح. وهذا الدليل خير برهان على أهمية الاعتناء بالكلام الفصيح والتعبير البليغ.
"قوة الكلمة" أين تكمن هذه القوة؟ "الكلمة"، يقول الدكتور إبراهيم فريد الدر: "تقرر موقفنا من غيرنا، وكم من كلمة غيرت مجرى التاريخ".
تتحول "الكلمات" في هذا الدليل إلى "أدوات" تؤدي عملاً بيانياً دقيقاً. وكما قال الجاحظ: "ومدار الأمر بيان وتبيين"، ومن أجل "كشف قناع المعنى".
