سيرة عمر المختار سيرة عاطرة روحها إيمان عميق بالله، وحب شديد لقيوم السماوات والأرض، ورغبة أكيدة في الشهادة في سبيل الله، ومظهرها قتال مريد للمستعمر وصبر لا ينفد في مجال دول الاستعمار حتى آخر قطرة من الدماء. جاهد الإمبراطورية الإيطالية وحده ومعه قليل من الرجال، فما وهن وما استكان وما ضعف، ولكن قاتل وقاتل. وأسندت إليه القيادة العامة للمجاهدين، في ظروف قاتمة، مخملها وهو يبتسم، وذلك شأن الأبطال الذين وهبهم الله روحاً من عنده. ولو أن جبلاً شاهقاً ألقيت عليه ذلك العبء لفتت وتصدع، ولكن الرجل كان ذا قلب أقوى من الحديد وأمتن من الجبال، سيرته خلدت عنه الله لأنها تؤمن بالله، وخلدت عند الناس لأنها تؤمن بحق الناس أن يعيشوا أحراراً.
