الحسن هو حليم آل البيت سماه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم الحسن، وكناه أبا محمد، وهو قطعة من سيد البشر، صلوات الله وسلامه عليه، وريحانه قلب المصطفى وشبيه جده الرسول المجتبى، وقرة عين الزهراء، أمه فاطمة الزهراء، بنت سيدنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، وهو أكبر أولادها، وأولهم، ولد في المدينة المنورة حنكه الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم بريقه الشريف، وأذن في أذنه. كان حليماً عاقلاً، كريماً شهماً، سخياً سمحاً، درعاً تقياً، محباً للخير، فصيح القول، بليغ العبارة، حسن المنطق، حاضر البديهة، له في طريق القدم تأمل كامل، وحظ وافر، وفكر ثاقب، وقلب طاهر، وروح مشرقة، ونفس مضيئة مطمئنة.
في هذا الكتاب يلقي المؤلف الضوء على حياة الإمام الحسن حيث يعطي لمحة عن نسبه، كنيته، وألقابه، كرمه وجوده، مكانته العلمية، مكانته عند جده صلى الله عليه وسلم، منزلته عند الناس، خلافته رضي الله عنه، قصته مع معاوية بشأن الخلافة، والصلح الذي عقده معه وشروطه وما ترتب عليه، ليختتم الكتاب بطائفة من كلامه رضي الله عنه ووفاته.
