يتناول هذا البحث للشيخ "سعد بن عبدالله آل حميد" واحدة من القضايا التي عني الإسلام بتنظيمها في المأكل والمشرب وهي مسألة "حكم الشرب قائمًا"، التي هي جزء من قضية الغذاء التي سبق أن تناولها في رسالة سابقة له بعنوان "آداب الغذاء في الإسلام".
وقد دفع الباحث لكتابة هذا البحث عدة أمور، من أهمها:
1- ما يقع من حرج وشعور بالإثم من بعض الناس من جراء فتوى بعض أهل العلم بحرمة الشرب قائمًا؛ استنادًا على أحاديث النهي.
2- بيان المنهج الصحيح في معرفة الحكم الشرعي حال تعارض الأدلة.
3- إبراز بعض محاسن الإسلام التي تدل على رعايته لمصالح الأمة؛ في منهج وسط يحقق المصلحة، مع البعد عن إيقاع الحرج على الناس قدر الإمكان.
