الرواية تحكي عن فتاه اسمها جيداء طبيبة نفسية كانت تعيش بلندن إلي أن تخرجت من الجامعة وبعد وفاة والديها جاءت لتعيش بالقاهرة وبدأت رحلة البحث عن عمل وبالفعل وجدت فرصة عمل بمصحة تدعى مصحة رفق صاحب المصحة اسمه الدكتور سليمان كان رجل غامض وغير مريح ولكن مع الوقت تربطهم علاقة حب قوية تنتهي بالزواج و بالرغم من فارق السن ووجود تصرفات مريبة وغير منطقية وبالرغم من أنه لديه طفل من ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة وحياته الشخصية غامضة و عليها علامات استفهام كثيرة إلا أنها ستتزوج منه خلال فترة قصيرة ولكن تكتشف بعد ذلك أن الحقيقة ليست كما تبدو
