الحبيب السالمي روائي تونسي من مواليد قرية العلا في تونس عام 1951. أصدر ثماني روايات ومجموعتين قصصيتين وتُرجم عدد من قصصه إلى الإنكليزية والنرويجية والعبرية والفرنسية كما ترجمت رواياته إلى الإنجليزية والفرنسية والألمانية والإيطالية. نُشرت روايته ألاولى "جبل العنز" بالفرنسية عام 1999 ونشرت روايته "عشّاق بيه" بالفرنسية عام 2003. من بين رواياته الأخرى "صورة بدوي ميت" (1990)، "متاهات الرمل" (1994)، "حفر دافئة" (1999)٬ "أسرار عبد الله" (2004) و"روائح ماري كلير" (2009) التي وصلت إلى القائمة القصيرة للجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية عام 2009 وصدرت بالإنجليزية عن دار آرابية هذه السنة. الحبيب السالمي مقيم في باريس منذ سنة 1985.

"مرة أخرى يقرع جرس الكنيسة، أتساءل لوقت قصير عما إذا كانت الدقة التي تناهت إلى سمعي هي الأولى، ببطء شديد أحك ساقي للتخلص مما أصابهما من خدر وتنمل، ثم أتراجع مسنداً ظهري إلى المخدة، وفيما أحاول أن استعيد ما بقي في الذاكرة من حلم عجيب لم أر فيها سوى فراريج أمي غير مقيدة القوائم هذه المرة والدويبات البحرية ذات القرون التي تحبها سعاد ابنته، إلى أن المفكرة ليست على الطاولة كما كنت أظن، وإنما على الفراش تحتي دائماً، كانت مفتوحة على الصفحة التي سجّل فيها اسم حمودة، وأغلب أوراقها مدعوكة، أتناولها بحذر، وقبل أن أغلقها أمرر أصابعي برفق على صفحاتها لأسوي ما أصابها من تجعد واندعاك".
