"لم تَصر ناومي عازفة في شركتنا، لكنها صارت صديقتي، واعدتُها عاماً كان حفلًا متصلاً غيَّب الجنون عقلينا فيه، ثم تزوجنا لأن ابتعادي عنها أياماً كان يحرمني جلاء ألحاني وجموحها. امتلكتُ ناومي إلى الأبد بحلقةٍ ذهبية وضعتُها حول إصبعها، في كنيسة كساها اللون الأبيض كفستانها، وزيّنتْها أزهارٌ قرنفلية اللون كإكليلها، وبقينا معاً عاماً آخر، ثم استيقظت يوماً لأجدها شنقت نفسها. تلك اللحظة التي شلَّت عالمي إلى الأبد، وكأنني كوكب توقف عن الدوران، ليستحيل أحد نصفيه صحراء جليدية دمغها الموتُ بخاتمٍ لا يُمحى، والنصف الآخر يواجه نجماً لاهباً يصهره في جحيم لا فرار منها. يلفني البرد كلما تذكرت لحظة استيقاظي ورؤيتها أمامي مشنوقة، للحظة ظننتها تداعبني دعابة سخيفة، ولم أفهم أنها فعلت ما فعلته حقاً، حتى بعدما أنزلتها وأسجيتها على فراشنا. بقيت فترة محدقاً إلى عينيها الجاحظتين، ولسانها المُدلّى، ووجها المزرق.. بدت غريبة تماماً، مشوهة تماماً، لم أستطع استيعاب أنها المرأة نفسها التي شاركتني حياتي، وعاهدتني على البقاء معي إلى الأبد. لم أبك من أجل ناومي قط؛ لم تعد في قلبي ذرة حب لها منذ أغمضت عينيها الجاحظتين، أيّاً كان السبب الذي دعاها لتركي فأنا لا أهتم به، لقد خانتني، أن تجرحني بهذا الشكل وتهجرني إلى الأبد دون تفسير أمر لا يغتفر، سيان عندي إن كانت هجرتني لأجل رجل آخر أو لأجل جنون طارئ ألمَّ بها، لقد هجرتني وكفى".
تدور أحداث "تسوباسا" في إطار درامي رومانسي، حول عازف الجيتار الياباني هارونو تاكومي، الذي يقاوم اكتئاباً مدمراً عصف به بعد انتحار زوجته، ويطارده وسواس مُلحّ بأن يضع حدّاً لحياته، ليهرب من الذنب الذي يحمله بموتها.
تستلهم الرواية أجواء حياة الشهرة والمسرح بين عازفي "الروك" اليابانيين، والذين عرفوا بمطاردات المعجبات الأسيويات لهم، والتي تبلغ حد تدمير حياتهم ودفعهم للانتحار.
