بعد سبع سنوات من الغياب و على فراقهما، يعود سام بطل الرواية ليفي بوعده الذي قطعة لحبيته البطله غزل، التي نشأت قصة حبهما منذ كانا طفلين ونضجت مع مرور السنوات، لكن القدر إغتال علاقتهما، بسيف الفراق حين وصلوا إلى عمر الـ١٨سنه، وفرقهما القدر بعد أن أجبروها أهله على الزواج من رجل أخر، يعاني سام ألم الفراق ويقرر الرحيل عن مدينته في صباح يوم زفافها، بعد إن التقى وودعته، أرسلت له غزل بصندوق فيه قلم ودفتر ورسالة وداع وإعتذار، وطلبت منه أن يكتب حكايتهما المغدوره، فعاد بعد سبع سنوات ليفي بوعده لها، وكتب حكايتهما وهو يجلس تحت ضياء القمر.
