لم أعرف بماذا أردّ. أنا الذي أفحمتُ قضاةً، أسكتتني امرأةٌ ستّينيّة بفرشاة.
شربتُ باقي الشاي دفعةً واحدة. وقفتُ. "تأخّرت. لازم أمشي".
صوفيا لم تمنعني. فقط رافقتني إلى الباب.
عند العتبة، وقفتُ. "شكرًا على الشاي"، قلتُ رسميًّا.
"وشكرًا على الوردة"، ردّت.
"أيّ وردة؟"
"اللي في جيبك. واللي في مكتبك. واللي...". سكتت. ابتسمت. "تصبح على حياة يا حارس المقبرة".
خرجتُ.
الليل كان أخفّ. والهواء فيه رائحة نيل. ورائحة قرفة.
وضعتُ يدي في جيبي. المنديل صار وردةً كاملة.
ولأوّل مرّةٍ منذ عشرين عامًا، وأنا أقود إلى البيت، فتحتُ راديو
