واصلت المرأة قائلة، بعد أن استطاعت السّيطرة على ضحكها: لا شكّ أنّك تجدين صورةَ وجهك في الماء جميلة، أليس كذلك؟ وربّما تكونين أيضاً مندهشة من جمال شكلك، لكنك، أيّتها الصّغيرة، تدوسين بقدميكِ الصّغيرتين أشياء هي أجمل وأكمل منك بكثير. إن استمرَرْتِ كلَّ حياتك في أن تكوني مغرورة بنفسك إلى هذه الدّرجة، فاعلمي أنّك لن تكوني سعيدة، وستصبحين أضحوكة للجميع. وأنا أريد، على أيّ حال، أن أقدّم لك درساً يمكن أن يكون له تأثير ملموس عليك، فيشفيكِ ممّا أنت فيه: سأهديك جناحين يساعدانك على البحث عن الحقيقة. الجناحان لن يمكثا لديك سوى وقت قصير، لكنّهما سيمكّنانك من أن تستنتجي بنفسك أنّ عبادة الذّات ليست أمراً ملائماً، وذلك من خلال مشاهدتك لها عند الآخرين.
