المتن صحيفة في إثبات تجرد النفس الناطقة وبقائها بعد فناء الجسد على أسلوب القدماء من حكماء الإسلام. صيغ كرسالة بقلم الوزير الكبير الفيلسوف الشهير نصير الدين محمد بن محمد الطوسي المتوفي سنة 672هـ. وكان تلاميذه كالقطب الشيرازي والنظام النيسابوري والعلامة الحلى يلقبونه "أستاذ البشر". وقد أحله الإفرنج محلا ساميا لا يدانيه فيه أى فيلسوف في الشرق حتى إنهم سموا باسمه جبلا اكتشفوه في كرة القمر تذكارا لذكرى خدماته العلمية البشرية.
