إن إقامة صداقة مع النجوم أمر سهل للغاية، إذا أكثرنا النظر إليها، لتصبح النجوم الساطعة والأشكال البارزة التي تكونها، كالدب الأكبر مألوفة بسرعة كبيرة لدينا. ولا يلزم لذلك أكثر من عودة إلى خريطة نجمية تفصيلية، أو كتاب في النجوم مدعم بالصور كالكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته "بروج السماء" مع رصد للسماء لمدة تقارب نصف ساعة في ليلة صحوة حتى يتيسر تحديد النجوم اللامعة في كل تجمع نجمي.
وبالعودة إلى الكتاب وإلى ما وردت عليه فصوله نجد أنه لم يقتصر في فصوله (4، 5، 6، 7، 8، 9) على استعراض الكوكبات النجمية في نصفي الكرة، حسب فصلية ظهورها في السماء، بل تعدى ذلك في فصليه الأول والثاني إلى توضيح للخصائص العامة للنجوم، ولنماذجها.
وبين في الفصل الثالث ترتيب الكوكبات ونظمها. كما نالت أهم نجوم السماء وما كان لها من دور في حياة الناس قسطاً من هذا الكتاب في فصله العاشر الذي لم يغفل أيضاً طبيعة العلاقة ما بين النجوم والتنجيم في فصله الحادي عشر. إلى جانب ذلك فقد زود الكتاب بالعديد من الصور والخرائط النجمية التي تشكل بحد ذاتها مرجعاً أساسياً لمعرفة نجوم السماء.
